Val married her husband Mike right after college, and he moved her from her childhood home in AZ, out to CA. Within a few years, their son Matt was born. Mike's work in the Golf industry relocated them to Texas where their daughter Lindsay was born, and they happily resided in, and loved Texas for 10 years.
Val and the family had the opportunity to return to CA about 15 years ago. They both have the attitude that your home is where your heart is, so it does not matter what city you reside in. They ended up in Walnut Creek when they came back to CA, as Mike worked at Tilden, in the Berkeley Hills,. They met so many wonderful people while living in Walnut Creek and learned to really appreciate group carpools, which they found to be a necessity in a working household with active kids. The intense year round sports now a days....have really become huge commitments. Kids attended Indian Valley Elementary, and WCI. Those were the Bulldog Baseball, Marauders Football years for Matt, and Lindsay played softball for the East County Hotshots, Concord Mavericks, and Soccer in Walnut Creek for the Dynamos.
After a few years, the family moved to Danville, closer to Mike's work which had changed to Crow Canyon Country Club. Since Val's work took her all over the East Bay, it was always nice to have Mike at a brick and mortar building, and they stayed put in Danville for the kids' middle school and high school years. Matt and Lindsay, attended Diablo Vista Middle School and Monte Vista High School. In Danville, Matt played Colt 45's Baseball, until high school where he played Football, Baseball and Track at Monte Vista. Lindsay ended up on Mustang Gold Soccer, and played softball for the KG Hitter's and Sorcerer Gold.
Travel ball with two kids each playing two sports, was like another full time job. As anyone in a two parent working household quickly learns, car pools are a Godsent blessing and the only way that parents can let their kids commit to these intense travel ball teams. God Bless the families that have surrounded their lives. Mike and Val never had their own family in the California, so they will always be so grateful for those carpool days, and the wonderful parents and grandparents that were so involved in their kids and grandkids.
Very inspirational. Life is a whirlwind!
The thing that Val loves the most about Danville was the small town feeling that Danville has to offer. Everyone knew everyone, and it was a very respectable community to live in and be a part of.
Raising a family in Danville was definitely a joy.
Once the kids were in college, the family made the move to Brentwood, which Val has always said is a lot like Texas; much more spread out, newer amenities, and much straighter roads!
Her son Matt went back to Val's alma mater, The University of Arizona, where he studied criminal justice and traveled the country with Val's ole softball coach, Mike Candrea and the Arizona Softball Team, for 4 years. What an amazing experience for Matt. Her daughter Lindsay, went on and played softball at Cal Berkeley. Earned All American Honors her senior year, and 1st Team All Pac 12 multiple years. Congrats to her college career, as Lindsay is in the Cal record books in a few categories now!
So very proud of both her babies. Her husband Mike has managed a number of country clubs in the Tri-Valley area, currently the COO at Blackhawk Country Club.
They love residing in Brentwood now.
Every other house, seems to fly a flag in their yard in Brentwood. They love the Patriotic and neighborly atmosphere that Brentwood offers.
There is kindness everywhere, and Mike and Val continue to be thankful for their friends and family. Social media helps to keep up with all their ole' friends around the Bay Area!
